Skills Needed:
This class is for confident beginners to intermediate makers who are comfortable knitting in the round with circular needles, and double points or magic loop,for crocheters who know basic stitches and standard granny-square construction.
Learning Objectives:
- Review and refine crochet granny square techniques.
- Sew granny squares together to form the hat body.
- Pick up knit stitches to create a ribbed hat brim.
- Pick up knit stitches and shape the crown using decreases and double points or magic loop
- Confidently combine crochet and knitting in one cohesive project.
Materials Needed:
- 260 yards of DK-weight yarn (70 yards for the brim, 45 yards for the crown, 115 yards of assorted colors for the granny squares) We recommend Plymouth DK Merino.
- Size F (3.75mm) crochet hook
- 16" circular needles in sizes US 4 (3.5mm) and US 6 (4mm), double point needles in size US 6(4mm) or US 32" circular for magic loop
- 5-7 stitch markers, including one unique beginning-of-round marker
