About us

The staff at River Colors Studio love yarn—needles, hooks, bags, and spinning fiber—just as much as you do, and they want to share that passion. We're really into color! We enjoy discovering and sharing the newest indie dyers with you while stocking our beloved classics. Our goal is to provide a complete color palette with quality basic yarns. While there is no perfect yarn, there is always the best for each project and the crafter working on it. We recognize the value of different fibers and ensure we stock durable acrylic blends, hypoallergenic plant fibers, rustic wools, and the softest merino. Some of the brands we carry include CaMaRose, Biches et Bûches, Malabrigo, Plymouth Yarns, Spincycle Yarns, Blue Sky Fibers, Emma's Yarn, Ístex Lopi, De Rerum Natura, Jamieson's, and Noro.

History of the Studio

River Colors Studio was established in 2003; now that's history! The concept of River Colors was born from the restless energy of a stay-at-home mom (me, Erika) who wanted to work but also have flexibility. My first-generation immigrant mom taught me how to knit, crochet, sew, cook, clean, and get what I want. My father was born in the United States but lived in Ukraine for most of his formative years. He taught me to love colors, create, be precise (I can be if I have to), be different, and be proud. Along with all that excellent informal training, I have a lot of formal education: a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (horticulture, to be more specific) and two Master's degrees, one in Health Care Administration and one in Library and Information Science.

All this education combined enabled me to channel my restless energy into something I love: River Colors Studio. My passion for color, design, and texture stems from countless hours spent with my tenacious and spirited parents. I learned about sustainability out of necessity. We gardened and canned to ensure we had the best and freshest produce available year-round. As a teenager, I became a lacto-ovo vegetarian because I couldn't eat our pet chickens!

They both taught me the value of hard work and the importance of striving for my goals, which inspired River Colors Studio. This is a place where you can genuinely be yourself... a sanctuary from the pressures of the workplace... a space that rekindles your inner child... the part of you that still knows how to create. River Colors Studio is a tribute to the creative spirit within us all. It celebrates the ability to be unique and think independently. We firmly believe in respecting individuals, and above all, we hold firm to the power of kindness.
