Yarns made by The Fibre Company and distributed by Kelbourne Woolens are luscious blends of luxury natural fibers, kettle-dyed to achieve subtle variations in hue. Their yarns range from fingering to bulky weight, coming in palettes inspired by the natural world. In addition to their yarns, Kelbourne Woolens also publishes great pattern support for Fibre Company yarns, both as individual patterns and their new collection, Kelbourne Woolens Vol. 1 2008-2012.

River Colors hosted a trunk show of designs from Vintage Modern Knits, the first collaboration by Kate Gagnon Osborn and Courtney Kelley, published by Interweave Press. With years of knitting experience between them, as well as backgrounds in textile design and fine arts, Kate and Courtney have developed a unique aesthetic that updates classic knitwear design into wearable modern fashion.

And the designs showcase the yarns. Take, for example, Acadia, one of their distinctive yarns. A blend of 60% merino, 20% baby alpaca and 20% silk, the variety of fibers take the dye differently, resulting in a heathered main color. The depth is enhanced by the Fibre Companyís duotone process, resulting in knitted garments that read as a saturated solid at first glance and an emerging undertone. Slubs of silk noil add a subtle tweedy effect to the whole package. Check out Kate Gagnon Osbornís free pattern, Avery Cowl, to see how this 2-ply DK yarn knits up in a classic lace pattern.

The yarn colors and their names evoke the seacoast of New England, with greys like granite and moraine, purples like lupine, thistle and sea lavender, and the deep reds of cranberry and maple. If you prefer a smoother, less rustic yarn, River Colors stocks Road to China, a bouncy aran weight and Road to China light, a sportweight. The two yarns share the same luxury blend: 65% baby alpaca, 15% silk, 10% camel and 10% cashmere. The sheen and drape make this yarn wonderful for wraps and shawls, and especially warm for hats.

River Colors Studio is proud to be a retailer for the Fibre Company/Kelbourne Woolens, and invites you to shop either at the store or online for these unique yarns.
