10.10.10 Anne Hanson of Knitspot Sweater Fitness Class 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Sweater Fitness Workshop (get into your best shape EVER!): an intermediate class which covers the important basics of sweater fit and construction. Participants will complete a thorough set of body measurements and discuss how to use them to choose and use a sweater pattern in an appropriate size ands may complete a gauge swatch in class. Other topics of discussion will include yarn choices, pattern reading and terminology, types and uses of shaping techniques (increasing and decreasing), tips and tricks for successful navigation through a sweater project. Students must have a complete understanding of increasing/decreasing, completed a project that requires shaping (sweater, mittens, etc), and have an intermediate level of knitting skill and pattern reading (understanding of intermediate knitting terminology is expected). The emphasis of this class is on preparation and execution for a well-fitting sweater; seaming and finishing will not be covered.
Class time: 3 hours. Materials: a soft measuring tape, notepad, 50-100 yards of project yarn, plus pattern, and a variety of needles for swatching. Students should dress in a form-fitting top (baggy clothing will not be appropriate for obtaining accurate measurements).

10.10.10 Anne Hanson of Knitspot Yarn Voyage Class 9:00 a.m. - Noon
Yarn voyage for knitting and design: a fun class for all levels in which participants explore various yarn types and their uses in textured or lace knitting, in order to make better yarn choices for future projects. Students will gain hands-on experience in knitting yarns of various fibers, twist ratios, and dye applications. In addition, they will learn to swatch and assess fabrics for appropriate project applications. Discussion includes guidelines for how yarn type relates to stitch gauge, needle size, fabric texture and integrity, and how to use that information for substituting yarn in knitting patterns. Class will include a few exercises incorporating textured stitch patterns.
Class time: 3 hours Students should have intermediate knitting skills with ability to execute simple patterned motifs from written or charted instructions. Materials: a variety of yarn leftovers in all types and weights (5-7 samples, 20 yards each), a variety of needles, sizes 3 to 9US (3.25 mm to 5.5 mm).

10.9.10 Anne Hanson of Knitspot Marie Antoinette Sock Class 9:00 a.m. - Noon
Marie Antoinette; a fancy lace sock project: a fun class in which to tackle a complex-looking lace sock design by taking participants through each step of its construction. Participant will work a simple lace edging, graft it into a ring to create a top cuff, pick up stitches and knit a sock with several interesting lace patterns. Discussion includes tools and techniques for navigating a tricky pattern, types of lace stitches, working with charts, working lace motifs in the round, explanation of simple architectural and pictorial shapes in lace.
Class time: 3 hours. Students should have completed several sock projects, have an intermediate level of knitting skill and pattern reading, some experience with simple lace knitting, and be able to execute kichener stitch without assistance. Students will need stitch markers, notepad, dental floss or fine cotton yarn (for lifelines), one skein of sock yarn, sock pattern, and needles to begin sock project (students should purchase pattern in advance of class time).

10.9.10 Anne Hanson of Knitspot Advanced Lace Class 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Advanced lace knitting; taking it to the next level: an intermediate/advanced class which covers knitted lace (motifs with lace knitting on RS and WS of fabric), chart reading, working with incorporated edgings and knit-on edgings, shaping for shawls of various types, and fielding specific lace knitting questions from students. Students will work through a mini triangle sampler shawl as a class project (pattern provided).
Class time: 3 hours. Students should have completed at least two beginning/intermediate lace projects, have a complete understanding of increasing/decreasing and intermediate knitting terminology, experience with a variety of lace stitches, and be able to execute a crochet chain stitch. Materials: stitch markers, notepad, dental floss or fine cotton yarn (for lifelines), 100 yards of fingering yarn for practice, 300 yards of fingering yarn for class project, size 5 or 6 needles, crochet hook size E or F, and a few yards of smooth scrap yarn in a contrasting color. A magnetic board may be helpful.
