The war ended in 1975, but floods and famines, re-education camps and prisons made many people decide to leave Vietnam forever. You may remember stories of the "boat people" who took to the seas in overcrowded boats in desperate hope of a better life outside Vietnam. Millions of emigrants outwitted and evaded police and pirates to be picked up by passing ships and carried to freedom.

Not so with brothers Thuan and Huyet and their families. They made three heart-breaking attempts to escape by boat, but each time police or pirates stole all they had. The men were imprisoned again and again for "re-education". It would have been easier to escape separately, and maybe be able to re-unite later. But elder brother Thuan was determined to hold the family together. In prison, Thuan spent long hours contemplating the Fates and Destiny that seemed to conspire to keep the family in Vietnam. He realized that each time they tried to escape, they wound up in worse financial condition, while in the meantime conditions in Vietnam were slowly improving. He decided it was his Destiny to stay in Vietnam and accepted his Fate.

We are very glad he did stay and build the small factory that now produces these fine quality products. We offer you these needles of such courageous heritage.
